Professional Procedures Can Remediate Mold Damage in Ridgefield
Ridgefield Mold Remediation By SERVPRO is Thorough and Safe
One of the primary reasons to restore or replace soaked materials and furniture isn't just to reduce flood or other water damage. If standing water is left too long or affected property isn't treated quickly enough, then dormant mold spores can begin to form and grow.
Why is mold damage such a threat to Ridgefield homes? SERVPRO understands that mold isn't just a series of blotches across a ceiling or down the walls of a home. In some individuals, mold spores can lead to health effects.
To prevent or alleviate these problems, we have built our remediation procedures around the EPA's Guidelines. Their primary suggestions are:
1) Clean and dry moldy materials
2) Discard all moldy items that cannot be cleaned
3) Dry non-moldy items within 48 hours
We start the procedure by bringing in one of our inspectors. They are trained with an extensive set of tools and meters to find the source of the infestation and how far it may have spread. Once that has been determined, we bring in our technicians to isolate the HVAC system, remove both affected and unaffected property and bring in the cleaning equipment needed.
If the HVAC has been infested, work will begin there. Since ductwork is difficult to get into, our technicians will use a series of anti-fungal foggers to push the chemicals throughout the building's air system. Once the mold has been destroyed, specialized exhaust fans are placed to blow the dead spores our of the ducts and out of your home. With that accomplished, air filters will be replaced, and the HVAC will be sealed to prevent mold spores released by the cleaning process get back into the vents. Then, we use the same fans to set up negative air pressure inside your home to ensure any mold released into the air is expelled to the outside your home.
Ceiling panels and drywall that have been infected will have to be replaced. The material typically cannot be cleaned without destroying it. However, if the patch is light, we may be able to use sponges and solvents to remove the mold and salvage the material. The same is true for many types of drapes and curtains. Depending on the fabric used, this is also the case for certain kinds of furniture.
Carpets can be cleaned and dried if the water has been removed quickly enough. Our technicians use anti-fungal and antimicrobial cleaners to destroy and break up mold spores. With that accomplished, they use industrial vacuums (HEPA filters) to remove the mold and other soils. If there is still an excessive amount of moisture in the carpets, specially designed heaters are used to dry the carpets without damaging the fibers.
